Intensive Wear began in mid 1995. Started by
owner and nurse, Connie Urbach, as a "fun" project to boost
the morale of her NICU coworkers. She designed a t-shirt
that incorporated "original size" 26-38 week preemie foot
prints with the words, Amazing "Feats" of Wonder. She was
surprised at the overwhelming response. Everyone LOVED the
shirts and wanted more! Connie recognized the positive
effects it had on herself and her coworkers. Attitudes
improved and she felt a renewed sense of pride and
commitment. This was so amazing, that Connie decided to turn
this project into a business. Word spread quickly and the
business grew to include a website and several catalog
mailings. The number of designs grew to include dozens of
stock and custom designs including specialty areas and
holiday designs.
In 2008 after much soul
searching, Connie decided to sell Intensive Wear so she
could spend more time doing research in her field of NICU
nursing. It took many months to find the right person to
take over the business. This person had to care about babies
and they had to feel passionate about what they would be
doing. Julie Kirchhoff was the perfect fit! She already
owned and operated two very successful web-based businesses,
http://www.countlessmiracles.com
where you can find preemie, twin, triplet, and quadruplet
apparel and
http://www.wangfoozle.com where you can order
custom imprinted apparel and other unique products.
And, more importantly, she is connected emotionally to
babies, especially preemies and multiples.
Connie and Julie initially got to know one another by email
and phone calls, but they needed to be face to face to work
out business details and finalize the sale agreement, so
Connie invited Julie to be a guest in her home. In November
of 2008, Julie flew from Kansas to Virginia. After a few
late nights, with much laughter, they felt a special
connection. They had many philosophies about life in common.
A lasting friendship was formed. Connie felt that the
business was in very capable hands, and Julie could not wait
to get started updating the website and adding new products.
Thank you Connie first for
taking me into your home and making me feel very welcome.
This friendship took off right from the start and I feel
like I could turn to you about anything. Also for the
business opportunity to take your designs that you worked so
hard on and to continue providing these unique and fun
designs to the medical profession and the general public!
If
you have any questions regarding any of our products or if
you have suggestions for new designs, I'd love to hear from
you! Feel free to call or email me!
God Bless,
Julie
